damn. If I could pick any five artists to see perform live, Nina Simone would definitely be one of them. Listen to her righting her band as they start to perform a gospel rendition of Dylan's "I Shall Be Released". For some reason, it's ok when she stops and corrects them. It's not petulant like today's divas' outbursts. It's that calm, confident authority in her voice - a commanding but reassuring voice. You know if you follow, it'll be right.
On her album "To Love Somebody", she does two other Dylan covers, and a great cover of Leonard Cohen's "Suzanne." Today, I walked up to Amoeba at lunch and found exactly what I wanted. yes!
