Bloom
Bloom: 28,000 Potted Flowers Installed at the Massachusetts Mental Health Center
While historically a place of healing, the drab interior, worn hallways, and dull paint needed a respectful infusion of hope. With a limited budget and only three months of planning Schuleit and an enormous team of volunteers executed a massive public art installation called Bloom. The concept was simple but absolutely immense in scale. Nearly 28,000 potted flowers would fill almost every square foot of the MMHC including corridors, stairwells, offices and even a swimming pool, all of it brought to life with a sea of blooms. The public was then invited for a limited 4-day viewing as a time for needed reflection and rebirth.

Trayvon Martin
Lebron James tweeted this picture of the Miami Heat with the hashtags #WeAreTrayvonMartin #Stereotyped #WeWantJustice. It's rare for modern day hyper brand-aware NBA'rs to make any kind of meaningful statement like this. It's also rare for me to like something that the Heat did.
Also, Obama speaks on a personal level about Trayvon.

"I am proud of you," Stephon signed to the president.
Not missing a beat, President Obama signed back: "Thank you."

I was joking with Art about how bad the stock photography is that we used to have to work with. He sent me this. So good.

Why to eat local
And why I miss my Silver Lake Farms CSA. Local food economies as a pre-problem solution.

Prometheus Trailer
YES.
Crafting a trailer is always a creative endeavor, and at its best, it's an art. This shit is so good.

Toro y Moi "Mayor Normal"
A cut off of Helms-a-Lee favorite Toro y Moi's demo CD-R. Channeling a little Jeff Tweedy. Good stuff for a Friday afternoon.

John Carter the doomed
A good investigation into why Disney's John Carter is on route to becoming the biggest box office flop of all time.
:: Too much creative control given to helmer Andrew Stanton.
:: His blinding loyalty to the original novels
:: His overestimation of the character's clout
:: No mention of his pedigree in trailers (Wall-E, Finding Nemo)
:: Only hitting one of the hallowed four quadrants at a time in the trailers
:: How after Star Wars etc borrowed everything from Edgar Rice Burroughs' worlds, John Carter looks derivative, even though it was the first
a (conservatively) $250,000,000 oops
