“In this series of large format inkjet prints, I set the camera to automatically take pictures each minute as I walk along familiar paths. Then, the collection of photographs is brought into Photoshop, where I create a large canvas and randomly drop each image into the larger composition. I am interested in the patterns formed between the individual images and the collective montage, as well as questioning the inherent stasis of the photographic image.”

William Eggleston plays the piano

William Eggleston, one of the most important American photographers, the man who legitimized color photography in fine art, is apparently also a fine pianist. I had the privilege of shaking his hand and having a quick chat with Bill (sobriquet, since we're tight now) at the opening of his LACMA/BCAM show. Here he is playing.

we set controls for the heart of the sun

LCD Soundystem announced that they'll be playing their final concert on April 2 at Madison Square Garden. It'll be a 3-hour marathon set backed by a choir, a string section and a horn section, and a black and white dress code will be strictly enforced [maybe a reason to finally wear my tux again!]. Sound of Silver and This is Happening were the soundtrack to two amazing summers for my friends and me, and we all just so happen to be in NY for a bachelor party that weekend. I'm rolling up my sleeves for ticket sales Friday morning.

Submarine

Apparently the British film Submarine is all the buzz at festivals. Looks like it could be good.

British comic Richard Ayoade delivers his hotly-anticipated feature debut Submarine. One boy must fight to save his mother from the advances of a mystic and simultaneously lure his eczema-strafed girlfriend in to the bedroom armed with only a vast vocabulary and near-total self-belief. Kid Cudi + LCD + Christian Bale

I just stumbled across this song "All Talk" by Kid Cudi. He samples LCD Soundsystem's "Dance Yrself Clean", and opens appropriately with Christian Bale's notorious diva rant.

Cudi on making the song: "Me and Big Chip were in the studio just doing shrooms, hanging out. You know we had some people there, just kicking it. That’s why my voice is like that. I’m fucked up. Like have you noticed my tone on the song? I’m so fucked up."

The Egyptian Theater is showing eight Roman Polanski films in four nights, including my favorite Knife in the Water, LA classic Chinatown, and Repulsion, which I've never gotten around to seeing.

Peep World

It's a big day at Helms-a-Lee! I got my first trailer finish. I've finished theatrical TV spots, but this is my first piece that'll play on the silver screen. It's for IFC's "Peep World" and it went live on yahoo movies today. Stay tuned to find out what (limited, limited) movies it'll play in front of.
